Lighting up a network – How fast is your connection?

October, 16th - 12:10 pm ET | posted in Carrier News, Cell Phone Deals, Cell Phone Models

With the arrival of the iPhone and Samsung’s Instinct operating on 3G networks, cell phone users can now email, text, and surf the web at lightning speeds. A speedy network with a strong signal brings faster-loading Web pages, quick e-mail delivery and smoother video streams. On the contrary, slow data speeds and spotty network coverage means you may wait until you get to work or home before jumping online via computer. Wireless carriers all make similar promises of blazingly fast mobile Internet, even more so now with 3G, or third-generation, wireless. So what are the general differences between the networks of AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile and their top devices on these networks?

Deal of the Month: Sprint Upstage

August, 6th - 6:17 pm ET | posted in Cell Phone Deals

From time to time, the product team at Wirefly manages to get their hands on a cell phone model at a price that surprises even us. Since, in these cases, our cost is lowered, we’re generally able to construct a deal that’s really worth highlighting.

This week, we think the Sprint Upstage M620 is one of those deals. It’s not one of our free cell phones, but it’s a great dual-sided MP3 phone, with one side dedicated to music and the other housing the more traditional cell phone features; the Upstage also works perfectly with Sprint’s downloadable music service, and really can act as an iPod replacement.

If you’re interested, PC World offers a strong review of this phone from May of this year.

Thanks to the special price we negotiated with Samsung, Wirefly is offering the Sprint Upstage for free right now, after a big instant discount and a $50 mail-in rebate. In addition to that, though, you’ll have the opportunity to make an extra $50 in cash back and pick up a free stereo Bluetooth headset.

Price Drop: BlackBerry Curve for AT&T Now Only $99.99

June, 13th - 6:08 pm ET | posted in Cell Phone Deals

Once in a while we’ll call attention to a Wirefly deal in which we think our readers might be particularly interested. Today’s 24-hour sale drops the price on what just might be the hottest BlackBerry of the summer.

BlackBerry 8300 Curve at WireflyToday only, Wirefly is dropping the price on the new BlackBerry Curve to $99.99 with an instant discount (i.e., no mail-in rebates required) for new AT&T customers. That’s the lowest price available on BlackBerry’s newest PDA when purchased with a 2-year cell phone plan.

Sorry, current Cingular customers don’t qualify for “new AT&T customer” pricing, but customers extending their contracts can still qualify for an upgrade discount on the BlackBerry 8300 Curve.

(Editor’s note: this 24-hour deal has expired. Check Wirefly.com for the latest prices on the BlackBerry 8300 Curve.)
