Who’s Chattier on Their Cell Phones, Men or Women?

June, 12th - 10:49 am ET | posted by in Wireless Industry News

According to an annual Father’s Day poll conducted by AT&T, men use their cell phones more than women, but just barely. Five years ago, the gap was much bigger: men averaged 589 minutes of cell phone talk time, compared to women who talked on their cell phones only 394 minutes a month.

Today, men lead usage by only five more minutes per month, having dropped down to 458 minutes while use by women climbed to 453 minutes of monthly wireless usage. But while women spend an almost equal time on their home phones, men use their landlines less than half as much. That means women talk on the phone more overall, even though their wireless use lags by small percent.

The survey also showed that besides using them to talk, men and women use their phones differently. Women are more likely than men to play games, use built-in cameras and text message with their phones; men use wireless email and Internet access more frequently than women.

LOL yea but notice that women still talk on the phone more total. And that doesn’t even count gossiping at the watercooler.

Just found some more gender differences in cell phone use: women are more likely than men to admit that, when their mobile phone rings, they drop everything to answer it (39 percent women vs. 33 percent men). Men on the other hand, are more likely than women to agree that their phones have made them too accessible (55 percent men vs. 50 percent women).

Women will stick to the land line; longer battery life….

Husbands try to avoid a lot of their wives, which might be one reason they are not that enthusiastic to picking up their cell phones when they ring….
